How to get around in Cinque Terre

Especially in high season, the 5 Terre Express train is the most comfortable, fastest and cheapest way to get around Cinque Terre: the railway line connects the five villages (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza, Corniglia, Monterosso) with frequent minutes (every 15 minutes in Spring and Summer) and with an average journey time between one town and another of 5 minutes. The stations are inside the villages so you will not need other transports (bus or taxi) except for Corniglia which can be reached by bus or on foot via a long uphill road.

Tickets can be purchased directly at the stations. From April to November the cost is 5 Euros for adults and 2,50 Euros for children aged 4 to 12.

If you plan to get more than four trains in the same day, the best option is the Cinque Terre Card, which can be purchased at each station, which includes all trains between Levanto and La Spezia for the whole day, free wi-fi, the entrance to the blue trail and some bus lines. For more details, we recommend that you visit the Cinque Terre National Park website on the page dedicated to Cinque Terre Card.

Train timetables change frequently depending on the period. Here you can consult and download the train timetables currently in force. However, we advise you to stay updated by visiting the 5 Terre Express website.

The most beautiful landscape is the one from the sea. Usually from April to November it is possible to take the ferryboat that connects all the villages (with the exception of Corniglia which has no stop) and which reaches the wonderful Porto Venere for an unmissable trip to the Gulf of Poets. Prices range from 3 Euros for a single journey to 25 Euros for an unlimited day ticket. Ferry timetables change frequently depending on the period. We therefore suggest that you stay updated by visiting the site Navigazione Golfo dei Poeti.

Bus connect all the villages each other and each village with nearby attractions. For example, from Monterosso it is possible to reach the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora di Soviore, from Vernazza to that of Madonna Nostra Signora di Reggio and the village of S. Bernardino, from the Corniglia station you can reach the center of the village on the promontory. If you have Cinque Terre Card, bus service is included. Timetables change frequently depending on the period. We therefore suggest that you stay updated by visiting the site ATC.

The way to get around preferred by hiking lovers is the net of trails that connects the various villages and which have varying levels of difficulty. Pay attention to the shoes you choose: slippers for the beach, while running/hiking shoes for excursions. You can consult the network of practicable trails by visiting the Cinque Terre National Park website.
